You are generally right. Although The Sun’s famous headline “It was The Sun wot won it” did boast that The Sun had influenced voters, the truth is that News International has always got behind an eventual winner.

If they had been a customer in your betting shop, they would have put money on the favourite every time. This leads people to believe they are influential, when in fact they are really doing it to ensure they can cosy up to the party once they get into power (as the dodgy BSkyB dealings show).

A woman was shocked when her dog fell in a lake. As she screamed for help, a young German tourist took off his shoes and coat and dived in to save the dog.
